Our Research
The Structures and Materials Laboratory's diverse community of domestic and international undergraduate and graduate students and field experts are committed to interdisciplinary research with institutions worldwide, government agencies, and different industries to advance knowledge in the field, as part of our core mission.
Center for Integration of Composites into Infrastructure (CICI)The overall mission of CICI is to accelerate the adoption of polymer composites and innovative construction materials into infrastructure and transportation applications through collaborative research. More specifically, the center intends to stimulate applications and cost effective repair and rehabilitation schemes using composites in civil and military structures in collaboration with industry partners. Focus areas cover different fibers and polymers, including natural and bio-constituent materials to create new application areas.

SEACONSEACON aims at demonstrating the safe utilization of seawater and salt-contaminated aggregates (natural or recycled) for a sustainable concrete production when combined with noncorrosive reinforcement to construct durable and economical concrete infrastructures. In addition to life-cycle assessment and life-cycle costing analyses used as driving tools for the assessment of the developed solutions, two real-size demonstration projects will be performed in two countries (i.e., Italy and Florida, USA), at locations with different (micro) climates to provide the opportunity for long-term performance monitoring.
