ISO 17025 Accreditation The University of Miami, College of Engineering, Structures and Materials Laboratory (SML) is an integrated educational, research and testing service facility, dedicated to conduct applied and fundamental research through testing and analysis of construction materials and structural systems, while being committed to continual improvement of education, research and testing services and processes; focusing on innovative and resilient approaches to promote sustainable and economic development of the built infrastructure.

The SML operates as a testing facility and has met the requirements of the International Accreditation Service (IAS) AC89 “Accreditation Criteria for Testing Laboratories”, has demonstrated compliance with ANS/ISO/IEC Standard 17025:2005 “General requirements for the competence of testing and calibration laboratories” and is an accredited testing facility for the test methods listed in the approved scope of accreditation under Testing Laboratory # TL-478. This accreditation encourages the laboratory’s continual improvement mission. This is achieved by the quality system which includes policies and procedures by which, the testing operations and activities within the laboratory are performed. The quality system is described in the Laboratory Quality Manual, and includes the SML’s management and technical aspects including amongst some: the organization, policies, objectives, training, equipment, calibration, sampling, procedures, testing methods, and operating philosophy.
